If they don’t ever bring back the iPhone mini, I hope we get an iPhone clamshell that folds down into a more compact phone, with an Apple Watch-esque outer display.

No, thanks. Foldable screens look shit. The middle part looks like cheap screen protectors used to look like and the rounded edges of screens on Android smartphones bleed backlight (how‘s that even possible with OLEDs?) like hell. Also, there‘s inevitably going to be dust and other stuff collecting in the mechanical parts. Leave all that to Android fanboys who consider foldables a great innovation.

have you seen the new foldables? i had the flip 3 and have had a flip 5 for almost a year now, and if you use dark mode the hinge isn’t noticeable at all. plus with the amount of time i end up using my phone half folded, the question isn’t whether i’m sticking with android, it’s rather who’s making the best foldables, because i’m not going back.

Have y’all seen an old iPhone display? It looks terrible. It’s pixelated and has this sort of holographic shimmer to it from the crappy glare and screen overlay. Anyways, all that to say that we have to start somewhere. Foldable phones are definitely cool and useful. The problem has been we haven’t had many useful types of foldable phones. I’d trust Apple to get the implementation right and make it feel comfortable and cool to flip between regular and folded.

I was thinking the same before I tried one on store.

I like Samsung’s foldable there, it’s like tablet, but you don’t need to open it when you want to use it because it has another screen on back side!

I want something like that to be my next phone.

Oh no… to everyone with aggressive sweat: don’t get it. I had the Galaxy Fold back in the days and the sweat on my hands is too aggressive for the plastic foil

Your comment instead displays (pun intended) a lack of understanding on business. Samsung doesn’t only makes phone, they have whole divisions making everything. Guess what: they also have a division that creates screens.

Haha, Apple is and has been using Samsung displays. I think even majority of them was made by Samsung although don’t quote me on that since am too lazy to find numbers at this point. More to the point Samsung is huge in chip manufacturing, so memory chips, sensors and other components are made by them as well. Samsung also hold more than 85% of OLED screen market. Simply put, if you want OLED screen on your device your choices are either LG or Samsung.

If they are only playing the sides, then they’ll only ever come out… on the sides.

They need to play the top and bottom as well.
