That was a really interesting song that I hadn’t heard before! The rhyming structure was nice and meandering, and I always enjoy the measured approach he takes when including profanity in his songs. From what I’ve heard from him, it seems like Elliott Smith tends to restrict himself to one or two expletives per song (though I’m sure there are exceptions I don’t know about) and that first expletive always perks up my ears the way a branding iron quenches in water. It’s a nice sizzle, haha.
This was lovely, thank you. Elliott Smith songs have always had a sparse vibe to it, but this song really highlights how all an artist needs is their voice, a heart, and some feelings, haha. I’ve never really sat down and listened through his discography before, but I’ve been a bit morose for a while now, and listening to him sing songs I haven’t heard before while I indulge in a bit of melancholy sounds like a pleasant evening.
Enjoy 😆
