A recent patent application is suggesting that Google is going to replace the notch with an under-display front-facing camera in future Pixel phones.

Notch? I have the pixel 6 and its barely a small circle, don’t even notice it because it fits perfectly in the upper bar.

A notch I would consider those ungastly iphone notches which take over 15% of your upper screen space.

To be honest, if the camera was positioned in the average place where a person’s eyes would be in a video call, then we’d finally have eye-to-eye conversations.

But as usual, I want to be able to tell where my camera is, so that I can put some black tape on it.

People usually end up looking at their own preview anyway, instead of whomever they are calling

Don’t they already have a solution for that? Not sure about Android but I remember FaceTime having an option to make it look like you’re looking into the camera instead of down to the center.

OnePlus 7 had a Camera that popped out the top. I’d have that. I rarely if ever use front camera. Most gir apps that need facial recognition

Problem with that is it’s a movable part, and with movable parts it’s prone to break. Unless they can make that super durable… I liked it when it came out. I was tempted to buy it.

I used mine for three years, and gave it to a friend who is still using it. It works flawlessly. They really should have kept it. I LOVED it from a privacy perspective.

I feel indifferent about this, on one hand its great to have even a tiny bit of screen real-estate back, on the other hand I expect the quality to look awful unless there’s been a major development with under display cameras.

Personally I think I prefer the display cutout or pop-up cameras until they improve the quality.

After comparing old sensors from an older Pixel with a top bezel vs new sensors that are under the display.

I prefer more sensors/peripherals that are not under the display.

Especially for the ambient light sensor.

I think it’s a tech that will still need a few more generations to mature, but I don’t mind a worse quality selfie camera since I rarely use it. I personally would enjoy the more screen real estate, but tbh I currently see nothing wrong with hole punches. If anything, I think the Pixel 5 had the best hole punch location off to the corner.

I personally prefer the (extremely ugly) iPhone notch with better sensors, than under the screen. Apple does very well despite of prioritizing this.

My preference over a notch is still a thin bezel like in the Pixel 3.

I prefer this over aesthetics. Especially after putting a pretty phone on a case. (The case already takes away all the aesthetics).

I was never touching the brightness settings in the older nexus/pixels and I really miss that. They were much better catching and distinguishing different low light levels. I also compared the Pixel 4 Vs 5 using devcheck tool to test the ambient light sensor, and the under screen sensor can’t see shit at night.

Well, or seems like quality of selfies on Pixels will keep going down.

My 2XL is still unmatched to this day.

Pixel 3 was probably peek selfie, but I haven’t owned one of those
