There are a few valid ideas in there; I just think it could have been an essay instead
I’m not actually sure if Lain was around for Capitalist Realism; I just think it’s hilarious that Zero Books had one single hit with that book and they’ve tried to coast on it ever since
Lain was always a dogshit editor; almost every book put out by Zero under his tenure was full of typos, poorly sourced claims, and drivel. And a hot take, while I’m at it: Capitalist Realism isn’t very good
Here’s the Trueanon one. They talk specifically about Fort Bragg but then zoom out to talk about US special forces in general.
What if the kid is sort of an asshole, or just has a general unpleasant vibe?
Some… disinformatsiya, perhaps?
I guess climate science is her wheelhouse and not public health…

Both film versions of Solaris, though for vastly different reasons. Lem’s original novel is super dry and hard sci fi, like most of Lem’s work, which isn’t my favorite kind of sci fi. Both films really delve into the fascinating psychological questions of the situation Kelvin finds himself in. The Tarkovsky version is the best, unsurprisingly, since Tarkovsky is the GOAT, but I also really enjoy the Soderbergh version with George Clooney. The latter is hollywoodized compared to the Soviet version, but still is a really interesting and gorgeous movie
That’s just what a bot would say
There’s the annoying stereotype you sometimes see where people are like “Oh, Stalin wasn’t smart, he was a brute who only rose to power through violence and coercion” b/c when you read anything he wrote, he shows a clear understanding of his subject by making very careful, easy to follow arguments that explain the concepts he talks about concisely. Obviously you gotta hand it to the kind Vladimir Ilyich but for me Stalin might actually be more enjoyable to read
+1 for Chants of Senaar. For anyone reading who hasn’t heard of it, it’s an isometric puzzle game based on linguistics. You control a person trying to climb this megastructure where each level has a different culture and language and so you have to figure out the various writing systems and syntaxes to find your way
I feel like if you’re using twitter at this late date, this is sort of what you’re signed up for
Hoist with your own petard 😔
I think Elden Ring would be a good place to start since it’s the one that lets you customize your difficulty the most. You can use spirit summons (both other players and NPCs) and vary up the order in which you do things, so if you get stuck on something, you can go do something else and then come back with more experience and better equipment
In my experience, it can be any 4 people, doesn’t matter who. Awful game. There were a few years (2013-2014 or so) where every time a group of adults in their 20s hung out, they had to play Cards Against Humanity
Think of how much worse it will be for those astronauts if Trump is elected
